CONTENT STANDARDS
The published content standards referenced in the VoxPop Platform Operator Agreement and Voter and Backer Terms of Service

Why These Standards Exist
VoxPop exists to put greenlight power in the hands of the audience. That only works if the platform is a place where filmmakers can tell bold stories and Movie Lovers can vote with confidence that what they're funding is real, legal, and honestly presented.
These Content Standards apply to everything submitted to or published on the VoxPop platform: scripts, trailers, sizzle reels, project pages, titles, loglines, artwork, stills, filmmaker profiles, comments, reviews, and any other material. They apply to filmmakers, writers, and platform users alike.
One thing to be clear about up front: VoxPop is an independent cinema platform. Mature themes, difficult subject matter, dark stories, strong language, violence, and adult situations are part of serious filmmaking, and they are welcome here when they serve the story. These standards are not about sanitizing cinema. They are about the difference between depicting something and promoting it, and about keeping the platform lawful, honest, and safe.
What Is Not Allowed
The following may not be submitted to or published on the platform in any form --- in a script, a trailer, a project page, or a comment:
1. Content That Violates Someone Else's Rights
Material that infringes third-party copyrights, trademarks, or other intellectual property --- including uncleared music, uncleared footage, uncleared artwork, and characters or story elements owned by others.
Material that unlawfully invades another person's privacy or publicity rights, including using a real, identifiable person's name, image, likeness, or voice without the required consent or legal basis.
Unlawful defamatory material --- false statements of fact presented as true about real people or entities.
2. Illegal Content and Promotion of Illegal Activity
Any content that is unlawful to create, possess, or distribute.
Any sexual content involving minors, real or depicted, in any form, without exception. This results in immediate permanent removal and report to authorities.
Content that promotes, instructs, or solicits illegal activity --- as distinct from fiction that portrays crime as part of a story.
Non-consensual intimate imagery of any kind.
3. Hateful and Discriminatory Content
Unlawful discriminatory or hateful content, including content whose purpose is to demean, dehumanize, threaten, or incite violence or hatred against people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, or similar characteristics.
Films may portray bigotry, extremism, and injustice --- cinema always has. The line is purpose: a story that examines hatred is welcome; content that exists to spread it is not.
4. Sexually Explicit Content
Pornographic material --- content whose primary purpose is sexual arousal rather than storytelling --- is not accepted on the platform.
Mature, non-explicit sexual content within a narrative context may be accepted with appropriate content advisories.
5. Gratuitous Violence and Harm
Real (non-fictional) depictions of death, serious injury, or cruelty presented for shock or entertainment.
Content that glorifies or encourages self-harm, suicide, or eating disorders. Stories that treat these subjects seriously and responsibly may be accepted with content advisories.
Fictional violence, including intense or graphic violence, is permitted within a narrative context and with appropriate advisories.
6. Harassment and Abuse
Harassing, threatening, stalking, doxxing, or targeting any person --- including other filmmakers, voters, or VoxPop staff --- anywhere on the platform.
Comment sections and reviews are for reacting to films, not attacking people. Criticize the work all you want; do not abuse the human.
7. Dishonest and Manipulative Content
Misrepresenting a project: fake credits, fabricated cast or crew attachments, footage passed off as original that isn't, or trailers materially unrepresentative of the project being funded.
Any content, scheme, or coordinated activity intended to manipulate voting --- bot activity, purchased votes, straw accounts, or vote-trading arrangements.
Impersonating any person, company, or VoxPop itself.
Spam, deceptive links, scams, or solicitation unrelated to the platform's purpose.
Disclosure Requirements
Clearances. By submitting material, you represent that you own or control the necessary rights and that required releases, licenses, music clearances, and permissions have been obtained. VoxPop may request clearance documentation at any time and may withhold publication until it is provided.
AI-generated material. If a script, trailer, or other submitted material contains AI-generated content --- writing, imagery, voice, music, or performance synthesis --- that fact must be disclosed at submission, consistent with your agreements with VoxPop. Undisclosed AI-generated material that creates rights or clearance issues is treated as a misrepresentation.
Real people and true stories. Projects based on real people or events must disclose that basis so rights and defamation issues can be evaluated.
Content advisories. Projects containing strong violence, sexual content, substance abuse, self-harm themes, or similarly intense material must carry accurate content advisories on their project page. VoxPop may add, edit, or require advisories.
How We Enforce These Standards
VoxPop reviews submissions before publication, but review is not a guarantee --- responsibility for content always remains with the person who submitted it. Depending on severity, VoxPop may:
Ask for corrections, documentation, or advisories before publishing.
Reject a submission.
Remove or suspend published content, a project, or a comment at any time.
Suspend or terminate a project's participation in an active voting round. If that happens, voter wallet credits are handled under the Voter and Backer Terms of Service.
Suspend or terminate accounts and platform access, and pursue any rights available under the applicable agreements and law.
Report content to law enforcement where required or appropriate.
Violations involving child safety, credible threats, fraud, or vote manipulation are treated as immediate-termination matters.
Reporting Content
If you believe content on VoxPop violates these standards or your rights, report it through the report control on the project page or contact us at reports@wearevoxpop.com. Rights holders submitting infringement claims should include identification of the work, the location of the allegedly infringing material, and contact information. VoxPop responds to valid legal notices, including notices under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
Changes to These Standards
VoxPop may update these Content Standards as the platform, the community, and applicable law evolve. Material changes will be posted with a new effective date. Continued use of the platform after an update constitutes acceptance. These standards work together with the Voter and Backer Terms of Service, the Platform Operator Agreement, and any project-specific agreements; if these standards conflict with a signed agreement, the signed agreement controls.
